Athlete: Zane Parker

Year: Senior

School: Central

Performance: Parker won every meet during his senior season until the state competition, where he finished 10th. He scored a 442.25 at the state meet. Parker won the Fishers Regional by a margin of more than 18 points, and won the Jay County sectional by a margin of more than 98 points.

The future: Parker plans to continue his diving career at Notre Dame. He is possibly interested in studying pre-med and is considering a career in physical therapy.

Quick notes: Parker dives throughout the year, competing with Starz Diving Club when not with the Bearcats. He recently earned an invitation to the USA Diving Junior Nationals in Washington D.C.

The AOY says: "The season overall was really good. I don't think I could ask for a better senior season. I didn't lose a meet until I got to state. I didn't have my best performance there, but I don't think I can hang my head about finishing 10th at state."

2013 StarPress Swimming Athlete of the Year

Andrew Dowdle

Year: Junior

The performance: Dowdle qualified for the state meet in all four of his events. A sprinter for the Bearcats, he qualified in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay. His best finish came in the 100 freestyle, where he took 26th with a time of 48.47 seconds. He finished 29th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.24 seconds.

The future: Dowdle is undecided on his future plans. He said he hopes to go to college outside of Indiana to experience a new part of the country.

Quick notes: Dowdle also plays on the Central soccer and golf teams. He works as a lifeguard in the summers.

Dowdle says: “I thought it was a good year, it was fun and we did really well at sectionals. Everyone on the team dropped time. We had a good taper. I had a good time.”
